Lotte Chemical UK employee Daniel Thompson wins the Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year ward for “The best apprentice successfully completing their programme” at this year’s NEPIC awards ceremony
A short biography of Daniel
Daniel Thompson, Lotte Chemical UK, Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year!
When Daniel left school he struggled to decide on a career path. With a passion for engineering and the challenges it provides through fault finding he decided to pursue a mechanical technician apprenticeship through TTE.
Whilst training, Daniel supported himself by working elsewhere on days when he wasn’t at his apprenticeship – providing many valuable life lessons including the importance of a good work ethic, the principles of team working and an excellent attitude.
And it paid dividends as Daniel later successfully secured a placement at Wilton based Lotte Chemical UK Limited. Being based on a chemical manufacturing site and working for a multinational company gave Daniel a better understanding of engineering equipment and methodology.
To supplement his learning during his apprenticeship, he decided to take up a classic motorbike project – a project that provided him with the skills to translate into his working environment.
Daniel successfully completed his NVQ Level 3 in 9 months as opposed to the usual 24 months. He has been commended by both Lotte and TTE on this fantastic achievement which is down to his effort, determination, commitment and the many hours he spent undertaking external research.
Daniel’s portfolio is now being used by TTE as a shining example of what can be achieved through the apprenticeship route to future students. In April 2013, Daniel was employed full time by Lotte as a Mechanical Technician.
